ACIB Qualification?
The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is committed to equipping its members with the knowledge and skill set that will help them gain competitive advantage in a dynamic banking industry whose competitiveness echoes the necessity for unparalleled professionalism and ethical standards. Its goal has been to enthrone professional excellence in the noble profession of banking and the banking industry itself within Nigeria.
The ACIB qualification attained upon successful completion of the professional course of study is at the core of the Competency Framework for the banking industry in Nigeria which seeks to:
- Determine the standards of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the banking profession; and
- Ensure the furtherance, maintenance and observance of ethical standards and professionalism among practitioners of the banking profession in Nigeria.
Structure of the Professional Examination
The structure of the New Banking Professional Examination effective October 2021.
The CIBN examinations are in 4 levels.
Level 1 – Diploma Level
- Economics of Banking and Finance (D1)
- Customer Service and Relationship Management (D2)
- Banking Law and Regulation (D3)
- Ethics, Corporate Governance and Professionalism (D4).
Level 2 – Intermediate Professional Level
- Digital Banking (I1)
- Enterprise Risk Management(I2)
- Fintech(I3)
- Finance in the Global Market (I4)
Level 3 – Chartered Banker Level
- Corporate Financial Services(C1)
- Bank Management and Strategy (C2)
- Lending and Credit Management (C3)
- Applied Banking (C4)
And a minimum of one elective from the following
- Bank Audit and Compliance (CE1)
- Agency Banking (CE2)
- Infrastructure Finance (CE3)
- SME Finance (CE4)
- Agricultural and Rural Banking (CE5)
- Human Resources Management (CE6)
- Central Banking/ Deposit Insurance (CE7)
Final Level – Experiential Learning Module
- This is examined by a 3 hour online interactive session
Programme Details
The modules in the Diploma, Intermediate Professional and Chartered Banker levels are multiple choice questions and short answer questions with a duration of 1 hour 30 minutes each (90 minutes) while the Core modules have a duration of 3 hours each. Each module will comprise 100 Multiple Choice Questions drawn from various topics and their under-listed content in the syllabi except for the four core modules which have the structure of theory and case study questions.
Successful completion of all levels will lead to the award of the certificate known as the Associateship of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB).
Currently the following categories for exemption apply:
- Linkage/Accredited institutions (Banking and Finance)
- Regular Route
- Professional Bodies
- Bank Academies
A minimum of first degree in any discipline, BSc/ HND or any approved professional qualification.
A transition period of one and half years (three examination diets) has been approved and the new syllabi will fully take off in October 2021 diet examinations.
Please note that subjects hitherto passed by candidates under the current syllabi will be recognised as passed under the new syllabi.
